Shalini Srikanth started her journey as a dancer at a very young age at Padmavathi Kalanikethan. Shalini's extensive training under the guidance of the famous dancing couple and Gurus Sri. Kiran Subramanyam and Smt. Sandhya Kiran laid strong foundations for her passion to grow. The need for deep understanding of the history behind the artform made Shalini study bharatanatyam in detail and laid roads for her to complete Master's in Bharatanatyam. This reinforcement helped her spread her wings by performing at various platforms around the country and abroad. By receiving scholarship at National levels and becoming a graded artist of doordarshan, there was more need to unfold her story and inspire the next generation.
‘Being yourself is harder than being someone else and one has to inspire oneself to move ahead’ was a realisation Shalini had in her dance career which in turn motivated her to start Pranava Nrithyalaya to hone young talents and provide a platform for deserving artists.
‘Dance is not a sport or about being good, because whether or not people think your dancing is good is just an opinion. Being successful, good or famous as a dancer is not down to technique and skills only, but is also about knowing and loving yourself and putting that into practice’ is a discipline that dance taught her.
Being a member of the International Council of Dance- Paris (a unit of UNICEF), Shalini is also the Vice President of WICCI-(Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry) for Karnataka culture and Heritage Council.
An architect by profession, Shalini believes in drawing an interface between art and architecture through her dance.
